The purpose of this blog is for students, who are taking EDM510, to learn how to create educational blogs.
As a classroom teacher, I am always trying to find fun, educational field trips for my students and I to attend. These are a few things I have to keep in mind when planning a field trip: all of the first grade students at my school have to go on the same day (200 students), we can't leave the school before 8:30 a.m. and we have to arrive back at the school by 2:15 p.m., we have to take our school buses, and the trip needs to be able to gain and maintain the interest of the students (ages 6 and 7). These things limit our field trip choices tremendously. What are some fun and educational field trip ideas that are in Mobile or Baldwin County and what is the learning objective for it?
One of my favorites is Fort Gaines. You can check them out at http://dauphinisland.org/fort-gaines/
ReplyDeleteYou can split up into different groups and tour the fort, go across the street to the sea lab, tour the bird sanctuary, and then eat at the park. It does cost for each thing but well worth the time and money. Our students love it because they be outside and run around the grasses area for hours.
Your learning objective is the Battle of Mobile Bay.
Thank you! That field trips does sound interesting. I'll have to look into that for next year. It sure would be another plus if we could have lunch on the beach afterwards.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite field trips, is to Ft. Conde. Throughout the year, they have Colonial Day. During Colonial Day, admittance is free of charge for all students. On this day, there are people who dress up, work, speak, and show different ways of living from the colonial time period. Students get to watch many demonstrations as well as hands-on activities like how to churn butter. My fourth graders love this field trip and it makes them learning about colonial times much more interesting! Here is the website that gives all of the information: http://www.mobilebaymag.com/Mobile-Bay/Calendar/index.php/name/Colonial-Day/event/10751/
ReplyDeleteOnce while teaching in fourth grade, we took a field trip to Wetumpka, AL. This field trip involves learning about the history of the Native Americans in Alabama and how they lived. They learn about a culture that is a great part of Alabama's history. Another fourth grade trip we participated in was the trip to the capital Montgomery. On one particular occasion we were able to meet and talk with previous governor of Alabama, Bob Riley. On this trip we also visit Old Alabama Town and Dexter Street Baptist Church. All of these field trip concepts fall under Alabama History.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the ideas!
